The Presentation of New Colours at Parkhurst Barracks, Isle of Wight, on 17 April 1873, was made by Queen Victoria from her carriage which had brought her from Osborne House. The recognisable people are, from the left, General Viscount Templeton KCB, commanding the district, Sir John Douglas KCB, commanding in Scotland, and former CO of the 79th. John Brown in a glengarry cap is behind him. In the carriage are Prince Leopold and Princess Beatrice, Countess of Errol. Receiving the green Regimental Colour from the Queen is Lieutenant Charles Lucas Methuen, and behind him is Lieutenant Walter Douglas Somerset Campbell with the Queen’s Colour. The three senior officers of the regiment, wearing trews, are Major Philip Percival, Major Edward Cumming and Lieut-Colonel George Miller. The bearded figure on the right is Rev Charles Morrison, formerly chaplain of the 79th in India who travelled from Aberdeen to offer the prayer of consecration at the ceremony.
