The 5th Stand of Colours was presented to the 79th Cameron Highlanders by Queen Victoria at Parkhurst, Isle of Wight on 17 April 1873. The previous 4th Colours, which had been carried in the Crimea, were laid up at Balmoral. The Regimental Colour is green, with the battle honour for WATERLOO visible. This was the last time that the Regimental Colour was green, as soon after this presentation, in July, the Queen granted the regiment the title Queen’s Own which meant that all the facings on the uniforms had to be changed from green to dark blue, and a new regimental Colour had to be prepared, on blue cloth, and presented to the regiment probably in 1873. On the right of the picture, the CO, Lt-Colonel George Murray Miller looks on. The Colonel of the Regiment at that time was General Henry Cooper (not mentioned in the list of officers present). The Regimental Colour was presented by the Queen to Lieutenant Methuen, and the Queen’s Colour to Lieutenant Campbell.
