General Hudson writes in the Regimental History: ‘We of the Indian cavalry know the shutar; he can cross any ground and keep up with the regiment on any manoeuvres, at any rate near enough to produce lunch — the envy of our brother officers of the British cavalry, but often suspect by inspecting Generals. The camel is a wonderful animal….but surely the greatest of all camels is the shutar.’
