18th Bengal Lancers Cavalry


Nadir Ali Khan


Nadir Ali Khan had served in the regiment since its beginning, enlisting on 25 Sep 1858. He rose to the rank of Ressaider on 14 Jun 1873, Risaldar on 1 May 1878 and Risaldar-Major on 27 Sep 1880. He wears a medal for Afghanistan 1878-80 with a green and crimson ribbon. He was also given a medal for the Jubilee. He participated in the Jubilee Celebrations in London and served on the Indian Escort to The Queen Empress in May 1887. This detail from a photo shows him in a group of Indian officers in England in 1887. Other representatives of the 18th Bengal Lancers were Captain G A Money and Dafadar Sherbaz Khan. Nadir Ali Khan was appointed to the 2nd Class Order of British India on 12 Aug 1887, elevated to 1st Class on 21 Jun 1888. He died of pneumonia on 13 April 1890.
