The 18th became King George’s Own Lancers in December 1910 following the accession of George V. He was also the Emperor of India, inherited from his father Edward VII, and his grandmother Queen Victoria since the institution of the title in 1877. Thus the Latinised monogram GRI - Georgeus Rex Imperator on crossed lances and the King’s crown above the 18. The 18th were granted the privilege of the Prince of Wales as Colonel-in-Chief in 1906 and his plumes were incorporated into the badge, but that only lasted four years, although the Prince of Wales plumes continued to appear on the pouch belt.
