The different orders of dress are demonstrated in this group photo, and some of the officers are recognisable by name. Lieutenant Maxwell is in white summer uniform, seated on the carpet. In 1899 he went to South Africa and earned the VC. The (Officiating) Commandant, Lieutenant-Colonel Money, sits second from the right, in full dress with red kurta and blue and gold lungi. Third from the right, next to Colonel Money, is Surgeon Major Sykes DSO wearing the full dress of the Indian Medical Service. The officer standing on the left of the picture is in drill order, with the dress kurta but worn with an undress blue kummerband and plain leather belts. The leather gauntlets are in fact short gloves with separate stiff cuffs.
Standing second from the left is Captain Grimston in British-style dress uniform, red lancer tunic with blue facings and half plastron, and gold cap lines for his white helmet. The officer standing in the middle is in undress blue frock and blue and gold pill-box forage cap. Three officers wear a khaki drill kurta with lungi, and different belts. The young officer standing on the right of the photo wears British-style service dress, a khaki tunic with shoulder chains on blue cloth and a Sam Browne belt and khaki helmet. A field officer is seated on the right in mess dress with scarlet jacket and blue waistcoat.
