The third figure on Bremner’s photo shows the uniform of a dafadar (sergeant). The red kurta is embellished with gold lace on the cuffs, with a simple loop. There is also gold lace down the front opening and around the neckline. He has shoulder chains and a Sam Browne style leather belt. This supports an ammunition pouch on the right side and a sword on his left side. However, the sword is missing from the leather frog, being attached to the saddle of his horse. He has blue puttees worn over his breeches, and spurs on his lace-up boots. The turban, or lungi, is wrapped tightly on his head with the end hanging down his back. The colours are difficult to determine, although the pale broad stripes are most likely to be white, as yellow would appear dark with the photographic process at that time. The rest of the turban was probably blue with some yellow. The caption to the photo says that this NCO is a Punjabi Musalman.
