This lithograph taken from artwork by Richard Simkin was published in 1901 but is based on Bremner’s photo taken at some time in the 1890s. The sowar is not in marching order, more likely Review Order. The kurta has blue trefoils on the cuffs and blue tape on the front buttoned opening. There is also shaped blue cloth under the shoulder chains and around the neckline. The artist has put a strap across the man’s chest from the left shoulder. This could be a canvas strap for a folded haversack.
