British officers of irregular cavalry wore ‘uniform’ of their own design, sometimes influenced by local custom and sometimes strictly British. In summer, white clothing was the norm, and this British officer has a long skirted tunic, white breeches and jackboots. Headdress was invariably a British-style helmet with a pagri wrapped around. He is armed with a pair of pistols kept in holsters on the front of the saddle, and a sword. The men of the 2nd Maharatta Horse would have been clothed and equipped to their own preference.
