As mentioned previously, the District Officer provided the administrative backbone of the Colony of Nigeria. The Medical Officer would have been expected to have coordinated and worked alongside the D.O. in any medical capacity required. Furthermore they are likely to have been intimately connected socially with so few other Europeans in the area.
