Stable Jackets were waist length and edged with inch wide gold oak-leaf pattern lace. The 1883 Dress Regulations do not mention any difference between the officer ranks apart from the badges which were, from 1881, placed on gold shoulder cords. His breeches and boots were the same as those worn in dress uniform. The stripe was in gold lace, one and three quarter inches wide.
The sabretache was reintroduced for heavy cavalry in 1881, although without the previous embroidery. It was to be worn for mounted duties only, suspended on three gold laced slings in dress uniform and white slings in undress. The gilt regimental KDG monogram with a Victorian crown was fixed in the centre of the plain black leather front. The sword knot was the same as in dress uniform, white leather with gold acorn. His pouch-belt was the undress white leather version but with the silver fronted dress pouch. This Simkin painting shows brown leather wallets on the front of the saddle.
