The 4th Bombay Native Infantry was converted to a Rifle Corps in May 1841 and changed from red uniforms to green with (initially) black facings. The British officers wore the hussar-style braided dolman and a peaked shako. In the British army the shako was changed from the bell-topped to the Albert style in 1844. Indian army uniforms were somewhat behind when changes were made so this shako may have been adopted several months after its introduction into the British army units serving in the UK. The shako is rifle green with black cords. The ball tuft on top is green. The badge is the usual rifle badge based on a Maltese cross, but is more 1830s in style.
