William Fanshawe Loudon Gordon was born on 23 May 1872. He entered the army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st Bn Norfolk Regiment in July 1893. He was appointed Adjutant of the 1st Battalion on 20 Aug 1899 until February 1901. When he was promoted to captain in February 1901 he exchanged to the 2nd Battalion. He was appointed Garrison Adjutant at Dover in July 1912 and in September of that year promoted to major. He served throughout the First World War and earned at least four stripes on his right forearm for overseas service. He was promoted to lieutenant-colonel in January 1918 and commanded the 2nd Battalion the Norfolk Regiment.
He married Nellie Brett in May 1900. Colonel Gordon died in India in March 1931.
