Prince George Frederick Ernest Albert was born on 3 June 1865. He was the second son of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. He acceded to the throne on 6 May 1910 and was crowned at Westminster Abbey on 22 June 1911. The 1st Bn Norfolk Regiment was one of the battalions lining the streets at the Coronation. George married Princess Mary of Teck on 6 July 1893. They had 6 children. King George V became Colonel-in-Chief of the Norfolk Regiment on 2 December 1910. He died on 20 January 1936 aged 70. The portrait shows him in the uniform of the Black Watch of which he became Colonel-in-Chief in December 1912.
