This Colour accompanies the 1953 Regimental Colour of the 1st Battalion. Both are reproductions. Prior to 1919 the King’s Colour was devoid of battle honours. It was simply a Union Flag with the regimental title on a circle with the battalion number in the centre. The crown over the top was the King’s crown from 1901 to 1952, the same crown for the four kings. The crown on this Colour is that of Queen Elizabeth II who acceded to the throne in 1952.
The ten battle honours are those selected from 90 honours awarded to the Norfolks for their bravery and sacrifice in the two World Wars. The same ten honours are emblazoned on the other side. The title THE ROYAL NORFOLK REGIMENT was adopted by them in 1935. By 1959 this title was gone when they became part of the 1st East Anglian Regiment, combining with the Suffolks.
