The Regimental Colour of the 1st and 2nd Battalions remained almost unchanged for the first half of the 20th century. The 1909 Colours had 20 battle honours and this 1953 Colour had 22. BELLEISLE was added retrospectively at some point after WW1. The most recent addition was KOREA 1951-52, so there was a 50 year gap between SOUTH AFRICA 1900-02 and Korea, but during that time the Norfolks had accumulated 90 honours for WW1 and WW2. However, these were represented by only 20 selected honours emblazoned on the King’s/Queen’s Colour.
This reproduction Colour shows the battle honours clearly. The one shown below HAVANNAH is ROLICA. This was originally spelt ROLEIA but an Army Order of 1911 directed that the spelling be changed. The other change was the Regimental title to THE ROYAL NORFOLK REGIMENT, made in 1935. The crown over the title is that of Queen Elizabeth II who reigned from 1952 to 2020. The regiment became part of the 1st East Anglian Regiment in 1959 so this Colour was short-lived.
