British Empire Title

The 9th (The East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot

Tenor Drummers c1922

These drummers wear hot climate service dress, photographed probably in Iraq where the 2nd Battalion served from 1922 to 1924. The tenor drums are attached to a white leather carriage slung on the right shoulder. The drums are painted with the royal arms and the figure of Britannia beneath. Battle honours flank the royal arms. The men have plaited black bugle cords on their shoulders with tassels hanging on their left. They have white gauntlet gloves to protect their hands as they spin the drumsticks which have leather thongs attached to the ends.
