The official date for the adoption of collar badges in the infantry is 1874. The Britannia badge of the 9th East Norfolks was the largest of all the regimental collar badges. The first brass pattern included the lion and globe. This later pattern is seen here, Britannia facing both ways, wearing a helmet and holding a trident. They were worn on the yellow cloth collar of the dress tunic.
