Other Ranks’ Shako Plate 1869 - 1878

The last pattern shako worn by the infantry had a universal shaped brass plate on the front. This was a large laurel wreath surrounding a Garter with a cut-out number 9 in the centre. Officers had a similar shaped plate but with a silver figure of Britannia and lion in the centre. The plate was 3 in wide by 3.25 in deep.
