British Empire Title

The 9th (The East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot

Battle of Almanza

This view of the battle covers the action over a period of time. It is painted from the point of view of the French and Spanish army commanded by the Duke of Berwick. There appear to be some English regiments in well-formed groups carrying St George’s cross Colours in the left centre of the picture, but on the right the allied army is retreating from a concerted cavalry attack. Among the regiments being broken up are red-coated English units carrying English standards. The painting is by Italian artist Buonaventura Ligli aka Ventura Lirios. It is at present at the Prado in Madrid.
