The silver belt plate definitely identifies this officer as the 9th (East Norfolks) Regiment. The yellow facings and silver buttons and epaulette were also part of the regimental uniform. The double-breasted coat is fastened with buttons placed in pairs and there is no sign of lace button-holes as there were on the jackets worn by the other ranks. The silver button on each side of the high collar has a cord ‘button-hole’ whereas officers in the 1790s had silver on their collars. The epaulette was worn on the right shoulder only for officers below field rank.
