The facing colour on this officer’s coat is a pale dull yellow. The collar is in a turn-down style but when compared to the 1770 portrait of Nicholas Delacherois it demonstrates how the early 19th century high military stand collar developed. The silver lace button-holes are similar to those on the 1770 coat but the lapels are more formalised and sewn back so that the coat is fastened at chest level with hooks and eyes. There are no buttons on the coat at this stage, although the Dayes print of 1792 clearly shows that buttons have been added to both lapels. The silver epaulette is much neater than the 1770 version. There does not appear to be any kind of badge sewn on the lace of the epaulette. The only regimental badge is the silver figure of Britannia on his shoulder-belt.
