Infantry uniforms were radically changed with the Clothing Warrant of 1768. This illustration comes from Uniforms of the Infantry according to the King’s Regulations of the 19th December 1768. The embroidered mitre cap of 1751 was discontinued and replaced by a fur cap with a universal pattern front plate of black metal showing the royal crest and motto NEC ASPERA TERRENT. The back was red with an embroidered grenade and 9 in white.
The coat was closer-fitting and had simpler yellow lapels and a turn-down collar. The yellow cuffs were smaller and round with laced button-holes. Shoulder wings were added but flat to the shoulders. The lace pattern had changed once more; white with two black lines (see inset). The waistcoat and breeches were white instead of red.
