Regimental uniforms had become more formalised by the mid-18th century and regiments were identified by the facings which showed as lapels and cuffs. The first facing colour, in 1685, was orange but was changed to green at some point. By 1733 official permission was given to change from green back to light orange. By 1747 this was called yellow which remained until 1881. This illustration comes from the Cloathing Book of 1741 so shows the light orange facings. Each regiment had its own pattern of lace, and the 9th, or Reade’s as it was then called, had white tape with a red zig-zag pattern.
