Lieutenant George Barbor led his Troop from the 8th Bengal Light Cavalry into the forest outside Bhurtpore fortress when it was learned that Doorjun Saul and his entourage had escaped. Barbour himself, only 20 years old, apprehended Doorjun Saul and brought him to the commanders of the besieging force. Lieutenant John Hearsey of the 6th BLC was also attempting the capture of this enemy chief but, in his autobiography, he complains bitterly that he was held back by his CO so that he was too late and the high profile capture was made by the 8th BLC instead. This contemporary print is one of a series of 16 showing scenes from the siege of Bhurtpore by Hutchisson (W H Florio). They were published in Calcutta in 1826 by the Asiatic Lithographic Press. A set was sold at Bonhams in October 2011.
