George Alexander Barbor was born at Oldswinford, Stourbridge, Worcestershire on 28 Feb 1805, so was only 20 years old when he made his famous capture of Doorjun Saul the Raja commanding the garrison of Bhurtpore on 18 Jan 1826. He was posted as a cornet in the 8th BLC in 1821 and promoted to lieutenant on 13 May 1825. He was acting Adjutant of the 8th from 26 Mar 1827, promoted to captain in Feb 1838 and appointed 2nd in command of the 3rd Local Horse from 26 June 1837 to 1 Aug 1838. He retired on 10 July 1844 and was promoted to honorary major on 28 Nov 1854. He was married to Harriot Eliza Pereira on 12 Jan 1829 at Nasirabad. He died on 26 August 1888.
