Pipe-majors were 1st Class staff NCOs and their status allowed them to carry a dirk with knife and fork, although with silver fittings, not gilt like the officers. This example has two regimental badges for the Cameron Highlanders on the scabbard, and a Sphinx in the black grip. The tape measure indicates an overall length of 16 cms.
