Three men of the Cameron Highlanders march in step with rifles at the slope. They wear khaki frock tunics this time around, as the last time the Camerons were in the Sudan, in 1884-86, they wore red. Their spats and helmets are also a more sensible khaki instead of white. The rifles are Lee-Metfords with magazines holding ten rounds of.303 smokeless ammunition. The high rate of fire achieved by this rifle gave them the advantage as they charged towards the zeriba at Atbara. Also in the picture are Egyptian troops recruited in Sudan.
