The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders

Pipes & Drums, Queen’s Own Highlanders 1969

The QO Cameron Highlanders amalgamated with the Seaforth Highlanders in a ceremony at Redford barracks on 7 Feb 1961. This photo was taken eight years later, when the Pipes and Drums of the 1st Bn Queen’s Own Highlanders performed at Edinburgh in 1969. Drum Major Walter Grant leads the band with Pipe Major John Allan on the left of the photo. The Drum Major’s sash can be seen to have the combined regimental badge of the stag’s head and crowned thistle. He and the drummers wear green no.1 dress with the dress feather bonnet, while the pipers also wear no.1 dress which is green but does not have Inverness skirts. Twenty pipers march ahead of the drums with the Pipe Major marching to the right of the front rank.
