The pipers in this photo are wearing the uniform that remained almost unchanged throughout the 20th and 21st century apart from the lack of shoulder wings. The green doublet has regimental badges on the collar and there is white piping around the edges. The buttons visible on his cuffs are diamond shaped. The sword-belt is black patent leather with ornate silver buckle, tip and slide. It was also known as a baldrick as pipers no longer, since c1880, carried a sword. However, the Sergeant-Piper (up until 1881 called a Pipe-Major) carried a broadsword on certain occasions.
The back view demonstrates the way the shoulder plaid, in the tartan of Cameron of Erracht, hangs off the left shoulder. Unfortunately the part of the plaid that wraps around his chest cannot be seen clearly where it comes under his right arm. Both pipers have a dark blue glengarry with a regimental badge on the left side and an eagle feather tucked behind it. Black silk edges the base of the cap and finishes as ribbons hanging down the back.
