The broadsword was carried in a frog on the piper’s black leather shoulder-belt. The scabbard has a ring attached so that it could be worn by staff sergeants, drummers or officers as well as pipers. The shoulder-belt became part of the piper’s equipment long after the broadsword was discontinued for them. The view of the piper’s back shows also the tails of his green jacket with diamond shaped buttons. The black waist-belt holds a frog for the dirk which hung on the right side when the sword was worn.
