British Empire Title

The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders

Highlanders at Lucknow

The 79th made several bayonet charges at Lucknow but this shows them capturing guns manned by mutineers which may depict the action on 19 March when the regiment captured four rebel guns and the Colours of the 7th Oude Irregulars. The men are wearing dress feather bonnets but it is unlikely that the Highlanders wore this in action. Paintings of the 78th Ross-Shire Buffs at Lucknow, by Desanges, show them wearing undress bonnets with white covers and neck curtains.
