These medals were awarded to Sergeant Thomas Healey DCM who had served with the QO Cameron Highlanders since 1878 and fought at Tel-el-Kebir as a sergeant. During the Nile Expedition he was appointed acting sergeant-major in charge of Egyptian troops. He was attached to the 9th Sudanese Battalion, Egyptian Army which garrisoned Fort Kosheh together with the Cameron Highlanders. The medal on the left is the Distinguished Conduct Medal which is unique for being the only pre-WW1 DCM to have two bars. Healy was first awarded the medal for his conduct at Ginnis in December 1885, and again for his very brave action at Sarras in April 1887, and Toski in August 1889. The Egypt medal has four clasps. This medal was awarded to all ranks, albeit with two clasps, serving in the Camerons, as was the Khedive’s Bronze star, fourth from the left. The medal third from the left is the Queen’s Sudan medal for the later campaign 1896-98 which was also awarded to the Camerons, although Healy was still serving in the Egyptian Army. The medal on the right is the Khedive’s Sudan medal with five clasps.
