The first time that the 79th raised a 2nd Battalion was in 1804, at Stirling, as a feeder of recruits for the 1st Battalion. It lasted 11 years, disbanded after the Napoleonic Wars in August 1815. They received their Colours in 1804 which finished up at Fort George. The second raising of a 2nd Battalion was in 1898 when they received Colours from Queen Victoria at Balmoral. The Regimental Colour shown here was presented to the 2nd Battalion by the Duke of York (later King George VI) at Aldershot on 14 July 1933. The Colour differs from the pre-WW1 in that it has the cypher of Queen Victoria, inside the Garter, in all four corners, an honour conferred on the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders by King George V in 1921. The King’s Colour at this time had 10 World War One battle honours emblazoned.
