The Regimental Colour of the1st Battalion Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders is here reproduced on silk cloth, issued in Morris cigarette packets in 1913. The battle honours are arranged on a circular laurel wreath, 10 on each side with EGYPT and the Sphinx at the base. As well as the Boer War honour SOUTH AFRICA 1900-02, another retrospective honour was added in 1909: CORUNNA, a hundred years after the battle. The central device of the Colour has the correct badge of a crowned thistle inside a circle inscribed with the regiment’s title. The King’s crown is at the head of a Union wreath that surrounds the centre. In the top canton is a gold Roman numeral to denote the 1st Battalion. The other corners are blank at this stage; in 1921 King George V granted the regiment Queen Victoria’s cypher to be placed in all four corners.
