The Regimental and Queen’s Colours which were presented to the regiment by Queen Victoria in 1873. They were short-lived as the green regimental Colour had to be replaced by a blue one in the same year. The Queen’s Colour has no battle honours, following the instruction issued in 1844. It is a Union Flag with the regimental number in Roman Numerals, as ordered in 1839, and the Queen’s crown. The Regimental Colour has all the battle honours and an impressive central device inscribed ‘Cameron Highlanders’ on the circle and LXXIX in the centre, surrounded by a Union wreath and topped with a crown. Three honours had been added to the former ten, ALMA, SEVASTOPOL (both awarded on 16 Oct 1855) and LUCKNOW (awarded 3 Sep 1863). EGYPT with the Sphinx is in pride of place below the Union wreath.
The size of the Colours was reduced in 1868 to 3ft deep by 3ft 9ins flying. Each Colour was to be ornamented with a fringe, gold and silver for the Queen's and gold and white for the Regimental. The former spiked head of the pike was replaced by a three-dimensional Royal Crest.
