This illustration by Ernest Ibbotson is from a recruitment poster produced by the Cameron Highlanders in 1906, so the artist would have been careful to maintain accuracy. The drummer is a lance-corporal, having a gold lace stripe added to his drum badge on the right arm. On his left forearm there are gold lace stripes, point upwards, for long service and good conduct. His service overseas is evident from the array of medals for the war in Sudan in 1897 and the South African Boer War. A bugle hangs on his right hip, strung with a tri coloured cord.
