The back and front view of a drummer’s doublet worn in the corps of drums of Highland regiments is taken from Simkin's Soldiers - The British Army in 1890 (Vol II The Infantry) by Colonel P S Walton. The scarlet doublet has blue facings so that the collar, cuffs and shoulder wings are dark blue. The shoulder straps, however, were scarlet with the word CAMERON in white embroidery. The drummer’s lace was white with a repeating red crown pattern called ‘crown and inch’. The front was not as well covered with lace as the back. The button loops on each cuff and each of the skirts were made from braid which was a mixture of red and white.
The front of the doublet was fastened with eight brass buttons. There were 3 buttons on each cuff and on each of the four Inverness skirts, plus two small buttons on each shoulder strap and at the small of the back. All the edges had white piping and the skirts were lined with white. Not shown here, is the metal regimental badge of a crowned thistle on each side of the collar. There was also an embroidered drum badge on the right arm.
