The band of the 79th retained white uniform when the doublet was introduced. The 1856 pattern was single breasted and had green facings edged with red. There was red piping down the front and following the edges of the Inverness pocket flaps, as well as red button-hole loops on each outer flap. The cuffs have a green slash flap with buttons and red loops. This style changed in 1868 when gauntlet cuffs were introduced. He is the most senior musician apart from the bandmaster, wearing his silver rank stripes on the right forearm. The wings of the doublet were green with white stripes.
