Drummer’s Lace & Shoulder Wing 1847

The lace on the drummers’ jackets is shown in more detail in this copy made by Percy Sumner of Raffet’s sketches. The repeating pattern is an embroidered thistle in three colours; green, yellow and purple (or blue). The lace is edged with yellow lines. There were two sizes of lace, the narrower one followed the edge of the collar and shoulder straps. This illustration gives a clearer view of the shoulder wing with the green, yellow, blue and white stripes.
