On 30 May 1955 Queen Elizabeth II presented new Colours to the regiment at Balmoral. This photo shows the Queen inspecting the officers and men, accompanied by the commanding officer and followed by Prince Philip, Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment, and Major General Douglas Wimberley, Colonel of the Regiment.
The officers and sergeants are in Piper Green No.1 Dress uniform, whereas the rank and file are in khaki battledress blouses. They are all in kilts and white leather sporrans that have a small regimental badge of St Andrew in the centre and a gilt cantle. A larger version of the badge is worn on the side of the blue bonnet TOS, with a Royal Blue feather hackle tucked behind it. The officer nearest the camera has medals for service in WW2. The more junior officer next to him has a black leather belt on his shoulder that has an ornate silver buckle and tip. This is probably a piper’s shoulder belt adapted to carry the Regimental or Queen’s Colour.
