This miniature portrait shows an unidentified officer wearing dress uniform prior to 1835. In that year the badge on the officers’ shako was changed from the star shape seen here, to the Maltese cross, of similar pattern to the 1st BLC. The French grey jacket has scarlet/orange facings, and the silver braiding across his chest is wavy. The three vertical rows of buttons are ornamental as the jacket fastens with hooks and eyes. The pouch-belt is laced with silver, showing a scarlet/orange central stripe and edges. The belt has silver pickers and chains on the front, silver buckle, slide and tip on the back, and a silver fronted pouch. There is a gold and crimson striped girdle around his waist and the cap lines are gold, hooked onto the front of his jacket so that the acorn ends hang down on his left side.
