The Duke of Marlborough commissioned tapestries depicting the battles of his campaign from 1703 to 1709. They were woven in Brussels at the workshop of Judocus de Vos between 1707 and 1717. This view of the March to the Danube was designed by Philipp De Hondt. The central mounted figure of the Duke in a blue coat forms part of a foreground of the general staff, with the line of the army marching in ranks wearing red coats in some units and blue in others. There is no sign of the hundreds of wagons that would have been needed, or the artillery which would have required many horses to haul them along.
