The mounted officer in this print is Major Pitcairn, a Marine officer who, according to this print, was at the head of the grenadiers firing on the colonists. He was popular with the Americans of Boston because of his fair treatment of the locals. Sadly he was killed at Bunker Hill in June, after being shot multiple times and dying in the arms of his distraught son who was also a Marine. On the right of the print the battalion companies can be seen on the road to Concord. Two buildings are identified; the Meeting House which is the large pink building behind Pitcairn. The red building is the Public Inn. The artist, A Doolittle, was obviously familiar with Lexington and based the print on a sketch of the village.
