From 1707 the Colonel’s Colour included the Union flag in the top corner near the pike. The rest of the Colour was free to display the Colonel’s arms or special badge. This Colour is dated 1726 and shows an animal, probably a dog, with the motto VINCO MALUM BONO meaning Defeat evil with Good.
The Colonel of the regiment from June 1715 to Nov 1736 was Lieutenant-General Henry Grove. The only indication of any coat of arms for the General is an etching of the Reverend Henry Grove (1684 - 1737), shown below. The Reverend may have been the General’s son if the General was married around the age of 19 or 20. The coat of arms at the base of the portrait shows a similar field (ermine?) with the dog as a crest to the helmet, but with three shells on a chevron. However, there is no motto.
