British Empire Title

10th (North Lincoln) Regiment of Foot

Senior NCO’s Helmet Plate 1878 - 1902

In 1881 the Cardwell reforms brought about a reorganisation of the Infantry regiments. The 10th already had two battalions so did not amalgamate with another regiment. But the title changed from 10th (North Lincoln) to The Lincolnshire Regiment. This plate pattern was adopted for the home service blue helmet which replaced the infantry shako in 1878. The Sphinx took pride of place in the centre. This example shows it on a green background. The star, wreath and crown are of gilding metal but the rank and file plate was brass. This badge remained unchanged until 1902 when the Victorian crown was changed to the King’s crown.
