Other Ranks of the 10th North Lincoln Regiment wore this on the left side of the undress glengarry cap worn by the British infantry from 1868 to the early 1890s. The title and numeral 10 date the badge before 1881. The Sphinx was awarded to the regiment for their part in the war against the French Revolutionary Army in Egypt in 1801.
