The British infantry regiments were issued with tall cylindrical black shakos from c1800 with this universal pattern cap plate, although some regiments had their own badge in place of the GR cypher. The 10th Regiment did not have a special pattern, so had this plate on the front of their shakos. The plate is brass and measures 6.25 inches high and 4 inches wide.
