Officer’s Shoulder-Belt Plate 1781


The portrait Captain Thomas Hewitt, painted in 1781 by William Tate has this shoulder-belt plate and gorget, shown in detail here. Hewitt was captain of the Light Company, 10th Foot (they were designated North Lincoln the next year). The oval plate is silver with a star motif and X in the centre. The silver gorget also has X on either side with G and R above the Royal Arms.
