The 10th Foot was stationed at Michilimackinac from 1772 to 1773. The lower button belonged to an officer, silver with the numeral 10 within a simple shape and a decorative edge. The other button is a pewter button worn by other ranks. These buttons are also illustrated in Military Buttons of the American Revolution by Don Troiani (Thomas Publications 2001) These two buttons come in 2 sizes; Troiani says this of the officers’ buttons, ‘Officer’s button c 1768-1772 large size. Sheet silver repousse over a bone back. Motif of a ‘pie-crust’ border and raised Arabic numeral ’10’ with a scroll and dot in the centre.
